Aims: Amputation is a procedure by which cutting limb or part of it to save life by getting rid of unhealthy limb that consider the presence of it, either dangerous, useless or disturb his life. this procedure by itself considered as crippling method in spite of it is life saving procedure at the same time. this study was designed to compare the results and causes of amputation in Iraqi subjects for five years (2016- 2020) with each other andalso to define those major causes of amputation. Methods: comparative (cross section) study done by help of aggregate communiques from museum earning for amputation at Al-Hariri Hospital for Surgical Specialty from the period of January 2016 to last day in December 2020. Findings: the collected data for each year from 2020 downward to 2016; the rate of amputation (6%, 6%, 4%, 3%, 2% ) of total admitted cases. The highest cause of amputation each year; diabetes mellitus was (18%) of total amputated cases in 2020 and mostly males. Diabetes mellitus and vascular ischemia in both sexes were (18%) of total amputated cases in 2019. Trauma was (23%) of total amputated cases in 2018, and form the major cause of amputation. Trauma was (57%)of total amputated cases in 2017, and occupied the highest level. Also, in 2016, trauma was (64%) of total amputated cases and took the biggest space. Conclusion: the rate of amputations were not so high. There were significant association between amputation and sex, age, occupation, and the cause of amputation. Males shared the highest participant. There are no significant relationship between amputation and the residency in hospital, the amputated parts either lower or upper, and the site weather left nor right. Regarding The indications of amputation, the highest cause of amputations changing every year.
