Introduction&Aims: HazMat and CBRN incidents can occur randomly or intentionally. Rapid and appropriate response to HazMat and CBRN incidents can significantly mitigate the adverse effects on physical health and reduce mortality rates. The effectiveness of these responses largely depends on the preparedness of hospital emergency staff. Researcher aimed to conduct a comprehensive and targeted study to identify the factors influencing the preparedness of Hospital ED staff for HazMat and CBRN incidents. Methods:This Article is based on a Scoping Review study. Data was sourced from Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, ProQuest and Magiran Databases, covering the period from January 1, 2005, to April 1, 2024. The search components were: preparedness, Emergency Departments, HazMat incidents and CBRN incidents. Out of the 361 articles and documents gathered during the search, 154 were found to be relevant and ultimately, 34 articles were included in the study. Findings:Following the review and several readings with content analysis, meaningful units related to the research questions were categorized into 24 subcategories. These subcategories were then grouped into nine categories based on their similarities and differences, including: resources, training and exercises, contamination control and treatment, coordination, evaluation and planning, categorization and guidelines, casualty management, communications and information systems, and hospital management structure. Conclusion: To ensure the effectiveness of their preparedness and response efforts, and given the increasing HazMat and CBRN threats globally, it is recommended to adopt policies, programs, coordination efforts, funding and other necessary actions to enhance the preparedness of emergency staff for HazMat and CBRN incidents.
