This study aimed to investigate whether the association between the degree of injury and functional independence in children with physical impairments is mediated by rehabilitative nursing care.</span></span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="tab-stops:72.0pt 193.5pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#f79646">Instrument & Methods:</span></span></span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> This descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted on 420 children in Thi-Qar Governorate, Iraq, from April to July 2025. Using rigorous random sampling, 420 children with injury-related physical disabilities, aged 6 to 18 years, were recruited from hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. The Functional Independence Measure for Children, the Rehabilitation Nursing Care Scale, and the Pediatric Injury Severity Scale were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 28, utilizing Pearson correlation coefficients and regression analyses. </span></span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="tab-stops:72.0pt 193.5pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#f79646">Findings:</span></span></span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> Injury severity was negatively correlated with rehabilitation nursing care and functional independence (r=-0.68 to -0.72; p<0.001), whereas nursing care was positively associated with functional independence (r=0.79; p<0.001).
