 Introduction: family is the most important social institution in human societies and it has the main role of character development and children nurturing . Purpose: the aim of this research is comparative assessment of self esteem and depression in war handicappeds and non war handicappeds children at shahed guidance school in sari city 1389-90.

Materials & Methods: present research is a descriptive study. Questionnaire completed by 200 war handicappeds and non war handicappeds children that had sampels profile. Sampling has been done census and randomly. Self Esteem assessed by cooper smith self esteem Questionnaire and Depression assessed by Beck Depression Inventory. Data collected and analyzed by spss software.

Findings: The results in this investigation showed that war handicappeds and non war handicappeds girls and boys self steem have significant difference with(P<0/05) . Mean and standard deviation of self esteem indicators showed self esteem in the group of war handicappeds with a mean and standard deviation 29/76(6/39) and non war handicappeds group with a mean and standard deviation 28/05(4/82) have significant difference. This means that self-esteem in war handicappeds group is more than non war handicappeds. also The results showed that there is no significant difference in depression in war handicappeds group with mean and standard deviation 14/38( 9/54) with non war handicappeds group with mean and standard deviation 11/91(6/20). Discution and result: The results show that children of war handicappeds have higher self-esteem than non war handicappeds children and there is no significant difference between the two groups in depression .
